Somebody Like Me....

In this crazy, mixed up world that I live in, I can't help but wonder sometimes when the drama will end. I know that God has everything in complete control and I trust Him beyond measure! With that being said I was sitting at a family members house this week and thinking about all the things that I have been going through lately and decided - pitty party - table for me - I was feeling really sorry for numero uno!! Is it not amazing how we as human beings think that the world strickly revolves around us and that even though we care about others - our problems just seem way more than theirs. Ever had one of those times? Who hasn't right?

Well in my pitty party moment at the family members house, I started to look around me and I saw somethings that touched my heart! I saw a couple family members who stepped up and took care of things - just to help the other one out -- I mean that's what families do -- well at least my family, but it was in this and then coming to another family members house and hearing a song that somethings just clicked in this hard headed round thing attached to my shoulders!

I was listening to the song by Jason Crabb called "Somebody Like Me" and the words seemed to just jump out at me that day. It made me sit and think, when are we as Christians going to quit with the pitty parties and the looking out for numero uno and when are we going to become the Church that Christ taught us in His word to be. The song paints a picture for me - a ole drunk comes to church - fully knowing that's where he needs to be - but the self righteousness of the congregation gets in the way and he realizes they don't want him there so he gets up and leaves and no one stops him. Can you imagine what might have happened at that church - if somebody would have gotten up and came and sat down beside that man and welcomed him to that church or when he felt uncomfortable would have met him at the door and asked him not to leave and sat back down with him. I pray God give us the boldness to be a somebody who will take a stand - to go against the grain - be a difference maker -- I think I'm going to have to use this song as my new daily thought -- somebody like me -- Lord let this somebody like me - reflect you - let this somebody like me do your will -- not mine -- take the me out and let this somebody be your reflection and your hands extended. True to the words of that song if we would be the somebody like me - that ole drunk would have probably stayed in that service and became a beautiful new creature - just an ole sinner saved by grace!

Let's be that "somebody like me" be the somebody who reflects Christ in everything that we do!

Don't want to lose my soul

One of my all time favorite songs right now is by TobyMac – it’s called “Lose My Soul”. I love how it starts on his live album – how on the back of his daddy’s real-estate business card as a child it said what does it profit a man if he gain the whole world and lose his soul.
That statement has been ringing in my heart and mind a lot here of late. Part of the chorus says “ I don’t want to gain the whole world and lose my soul don’t want to walk away” I was thinking about that song and I thought, how true those words should be for every believer. Really what does it profit anyone to gain the whole world if there going to lose their soul and spend eternity in hell. I want to spend eternity in the presence of Jehovah – and you know you can’t really ever “spend” eternity because it’s eternity – its infinite! It’s like I heard my cousin Doug preach a few weeks back – when Jesus died on the cross for us – everything we needed was in just one drop of His precious blood that He shed for us. He when He died on Calvary shed way more than just one little drop of blood so why would I want to Lose My Soul when such a great price was paid for it.
Another part of that song says “Lord I’m relying on you; I’m relying on you Lord – cause I don’t want to gain the whole world and lose my soul!”
It’s my prayer that everyone would make up there mind and begin to serve Jesus Christ. After all – why wouldn’t you want to give your soul to a man who loved you so much that He died for you! He lost His life for you to have life – for your soul to choose to live for Him or not!
Even when we have to battle the storms in our lives – the storms are only temporary – but our soul – if we give it over to Christ – is going to live forever! His love is amazing and I don’t know about you but I’m going to spend everyday giving my soul to the one who created it – and letting Him mold me and make me and shape me into what He wants me to be!

Only the World

Have you heard the song by Mandisa, “Only the World”? Oh my goodness if you haven’t you need to. I absolutely love this song right now, it has ministered to me in so many ways.

Most recently the way I won’t forget that it has ministered to me is through a Girls Sleepover we had at the end of January. My cousin Jennifer spoke to the girls that night about how they needed to surrender everything to God because time is so short and things are wrapping up quickly and “It’s only the world” and were going to be in Heaven (if we know, love and serve Jesus) I sang this song to those girls before my cousin spoke and I tell you – I can’t sing it like Mandisa – but the words to that song ring in my ears how powerful to think:

“Been a hard one, been a bad one, been a tough one, been a sad one, it’s been one of those days that keep chipping away at my heart, nothing new here, it’s what I do here, it’s a stereotypical day in the life, I’m surrounded by all of the pain in the strife, but I know it’s all right.

It’s only the world I’m living in, only the day I’ve been giving, there ain’t no way I’m giving in ‘cause it’s only the world, I know the best is still yet to come, even when my days in the world are done, there’s gonna be so much more, than only the world to me”

Don’t the words to the 1st verse and the chorus of that song make you want to get up and shout – it sure does me! When I think of that song I think you know it’s true, no matter what our day has been like, no matter what we are going through. It’s only the world and the best is yet to come. Heaven is not that far off for the believer, I believe with all my heart that God is getting ready to tell his angel Gabriel, blow the trumpet, and look at Jesus and say, “Son go get my children”. Whoa! Glory! I can’t hardly wait!
