GUEST BLOG --- Bunt?

Bunt? Did you say bunt? Me bunt?

In baseball I have saw games where there was a player at bat who was capable of hitting a homerun. But the coach would give them a signal or tell them to bunt. You see on sports programs or in sport pages it is the homerun hitters or the players hitting triples or doubles, etc. that is talked about. But how long has it been since you watched tv and heard the announcer talk about a player who bunted the ball?

You see, when you bunt the ball in baseball it is great if you can do it and get yourself on base. But, for the most part it is not all about you or your goals you are trying to achieve. But, it is for the benefit of the team. It is you surrendering what you may want or feel you can accomplish on your own for the interest or the best for the team.

In Jeremiah 7:26 the word says about the people that they would not harkin to him, nor incline their ear, they had harden their neck. Then verse 27 says, therefore they shall speak all these words unto them; but they will not harken to thee: thy shalt also call unto them; but they will not answer them.

Say what? Wait! you mean I speak they want hear? I call and they want answer? Wouldn't it be good to have something to show for what I have done? or something that will have people bragging about me and my results because I feel that I am capable of doing really good.

But no, it is not about us. But it is about in natural speaking, it is about the team.

As Jesus said it best, not my will but what you wilt as he was speaking to the father. You see it is a place of surrender that God is calling us to that we surrender our own agenda for the good of the family or team. So listen he maybe calling you to bunt. There may not be any appalause or fan fare, but in simple obedience you go do it for the King, for the team. So don't be discouraged when you are called on to bunt because God is just as proud of you as the long ball hitters. Because, it is the obedience he loves cause you are doing it for the team or greater yet for the kingdom of God.

  1. Thanks for the encouraging words! I so often feel that I need to make a "long hit", but I don't, do I? I can just do the best I can & that's all that's required of me.
